PROPERTY Description

If it's a water experience that you are looking for, this is it! The perfect vacation spot for the family. There is something for everyone - there is a shallow area for the little ones to play and deep water for swimming and floating. We have 2 sea otter kayaks, a canoe, and pontoon paddleboat for you to explore the lake. The cabin is at the head of the cove. There is a 125 foot dock crossing the lake. There is an bonfire area with benches and of course, fishing. The clarity of Lake Lure has earned it a high rating for bass fishing.

Nestled among the native rhododendrons and dogwoods of the Appalachian Mountains sets this unique little cabin. Built in the early 1970’s, it is one of the older quaint lakefront homes on Lake Lure. It is truly an exceptional find in that it is set on a 13-acres at the head of Sunset Cove. Also, it is built partially out over the water, which allows an unobstructed view from the porch directly down the cove to the main channel, Chimney Rock, and most importantly the sun setting over the mountains. It is one of the finest views on the lake.

Let us take you back to the earlier, unhurried days of Lake Lure and Hickory Nut Gorge area. Leave the busy life behind and return to the days of real relaxation and rest. You can lounge on the deck in the warm summer sun reading a good book, fish from the dock as the water licks at your feet swim in the cool refreshing water, go kayaking down the cove, or just sit and watch the sun sparkle and move across the water and then sink behind the mountains.

In its own right, our cabin and dock/bridge are famous - if you're a movie buff. In 1983, several scenes from the movie, Firestarter, were filmed on the property. The most memorable being when Charlie and her dad were captured by 'the Shop' while crossing our very own dock. The film featured an all-star cast with Drew Berrymore, Martin Sheen, & George C. Scott.

The dock/bridge mentioned above extends all the way across the end of the cove(approx. 100 feet)and is truly unique. The entire bridge is ideal for the fishing enthusiast. For your enjoyment, we have 2 Sea Otter kayaks are on hand as well as a canoe, and 12 ft pontoon paddle boat - all ready to explore Sunset Cove and Lake Lure. Life jackets are on hand as well.

We invite you to come and enjoy your own private get-a-way at Papa Bob’s Cabin. It is a one-room cabin with a large private bathroom/changing area. You will find a queen bed and a queen size sleeper sofa. There is a loft with two twin beds. Appliances include a full size refrigerator, stove/oven, microwave, and coffee maker. There is central heat and air and a Weber grill. So, bring a good book, your swimsuit, your fishing pole and come relax.

PONTOON BOAT AVAILABLE:

We have a 1999 Voyager 21' pontoon boat available at your option to rent with our home. It has a 90 hp 4 stroke engine. The pontoon rental is as follows:

Summer Season:

Weekly $1195 plus sales tax

3 - 5 days rental is $195/day plus tax and $50 check in/check out fee

OFFSEASON rates are with taxes and fees included:

2 night weekend rate $315

3 night weekend rate $495 It is a great way to get see the lake and surrounding area; go for a sunset cruise, go to Bayfront Grille by boat for lunch or dinner.

PLEASE NOTE:

In 2006, Lake Lure has passed a regulation that makes it unlawful for boats with commercial licenses (i.e.our boat) to tow skiers or tubes, etc behind the boat.**************

By the way, the cabin's property adjoins Ledfords Landing . Combine the properties if you are looking for a large extended area for a family reunion or gathering (together sleeps 14-16). The large grass field on the cabin's property is ideal for games and gatherings. There is a volleyball net.

Perfect Getaway

We wanted a romantic getaway and this cabin was perfect for us to enjoy the lake and mountain views. I could have set out on the deck for the entire weekend. The cabin and grounds were well maintained.

Smart fish

We could not have asked for a better experience! Papa Bobs Cabin was just what seems. A nice; quiet, relaxing cabin on the Lake. We used the paddle boat, floats and kayaks. The only thing to complain about are the very smart fish who can strip your bait off a hook before you know they are there! Jenny was wonderful and easy to communicate with. It is a perfect place if you want to get away from it all. Thank you for sharing your wonderful cabin%!!!

The most beautiful lake house!

This was one of the best getaways for our family, house was spotless and cozy. We found our favorite movie by the tv, Dirty dancing :) Endless swims and a lot of sun! One thing we didn't see coming, black bear in a bright day light, swimming by the deck! But we were all inside and safe, that still was one of the highlights for the kids! Thank you so much! Madara

Beautiful cottage on the lake

Family trip to NC

What a great place to stay! My husband and I took our two boys (ages 9 and 7) and they had a blast! It was so relaxing because my husband and I could enjoy the scenery while the kids fished and swam all day - starting first thing in the morning! We rented a boat to go around the lake and definitely think the view from this cabin is one of the best (esp at the price). Being at the end of the cove lends nice privacy, too. The cabin is very basic in design and style, but it has everything you need for a laid-back, fun, old-school family vacation. The owners provide kayaks, a canoe and floats, so you have plenty of entertainment right where you are. We highly recommend it!

Come share the Beauty

On our drive to Papa Bobs cabin we had a problem when 2 deer ran out in front of our car on the interstate highway and caused $10,000.00 of damage to our vehicle, but we feel blessed that no one was hurt. At first we had doubts about enjoying our vacation after how it started. We got to Papa Bobs cabin and immediately relaxed and forgot about what happened to us and enjoyed the beauty of sunset cove at lake lure. My 2 granddaughters stayed with us and made memories I know they will have for the rest of their lives. They went tubing at Lake lure Adventures, Zip lined, climbed up to chimney rock and feed ducks and even turtles right on the dock at Papa Bobs. They also loved swimming, fishing and the canoes and kayaks! Staying at the cabin was a blessing at a time when we needed just what it has to offer.
